Winter has arrived

Our spring class schedule is on the website.

The decision has been made to change our store hours on Fridays. Starting the beginning of February we will be open from noon-7.

RYC Cotton Jeans
appledoor

Every day at the trade show in San Diego, a different person was wearing Appledore. It looked great on everyone.

The patterns from Classic Coast are truly for spring and fall. The garments are a bit heavier-perfect for a cool day.

The yarn is 100% Cotton with 75m on a 50 gram ball. It knits on a 4.5mm needle to a tension of 19 stitches to 4".

It's here!!!

This season we take you on a voyage of discovery that captures the romantic and nostalgic sides of the British summertime, in Secret Garden and Promenade, and adds a hint of Moroccan spice with the designs and location in Medinas and Minarets as we travel through the Soukhs and bazaars looking for inspiration. This season we have used different photographers for each of our stories to bring you three very different looks to explore. In Recreation Lisa Richardson and Rachel Henderson show us how to rejuvenate jumpers that have been languishing at the back of your wardrobe or turn that high street bargain into a one-off look. In Lazy Days Marie Wallin and Sarah Hatton have created homeware pieces such as a garden table runner and tea light holders that will add a highlight to outdoor living. Finally we revisit a very popular technique, short row shaping, essential to create the asymmetric and flared looks in designs such as the beautiful skirt, Wisteria.

New Yarn from Sirdar
ocean

Ocean is one of Sirdar's new yarns for spring. It is a ribbon yarn made up of 38% Cotton and 62% Nylon.

As we have come to expect from Sirdar there are lots of great patterns to support this yarn.

Sirdar's patterns have taken on a new look for spring. They are including a schematic so you can see all the finished measurements easier. Also, each size has its own colour printing. It is much easier to decipher which number pertains to your size.

You will find the pattern for this cardigan, Wakame, in the new book #262.

Felting Tips

Sometimes knitters come into the store after felting and their project hasn't felted enough. The two things you need for felting are heat and agitation. Here are a few things to try when felting.

  • use hot water
  • put your item in a zippered pillow case
  • add tennis balls, old tennis shoes, towels and/or jeans to the wash-this will give you more agitation
  • don't let your article go through the spin cycle- this can cause creases
  • check periodically-if it needs more felting, turn the washing machine back to the start and keep going
  • when finished, rinse in cold water and then stuff to help keep its shape
