Website

Korey and I have been working like crazy on the website.

You can now view the fall class schedule on the website.

We have made a real big change.  There used to be a section called Kits but it was hard to navigate and I really hated it.  We have changed this to Featured Patterns.  We are now showing patterns from magazines or from a certain company.  You will see the needle size used as well as the yarn needed for every size.  This will make it much easier for you to order from us.
New Yarns

Como is the new yarn from Debbie Bliss for the fall.
90% wool, 10% cashmere

como

Como is the Big Easy - a beautiful superchunky yarn that is perfect for the simple knits featured in the 16 designs in the new Como magazine.

The US exchange rate is going to affect us in the store.  We have tried to hold off increasing prices but we can't do that any longer.  Addi turbo needles will be going up 20% on November 1.  We should have a couple weeks worth of stock at the old prices but I can't guarantee it.  We will have to increase the prices of Dream in Color, Lorna's Laces, Mountain Colors and Berroco as we are receiving new shipments from them.  If you are thinking of a new knitting bag or giving one for a Christmas gift-get it now.  All the bags will be going up 25% when we receive our next shipment.

Yarn on Sale

I need to make some room in the store so from now until November 20, 2008, Sensation from Naturally will be on sale.  The regular price is $13.95 and you can have this fabulous yarn at $9.95 a ball.

upside down
We used Sensation for our Upside Down Jacket.  Wear it long like the picture above or short with a big collar (picture below).
n1051
You will need 18-20 skeins for this jacket.  The pattern is free with the purchase of 18 or more skeins.

Sensation is a true worsted weight yarn-20 stitches=4" on 4.5mm needles.  You can find lots of patterns on the internet (and probably in your pattern library) that will knit to this tension.
Eco Wools
This fall we are seeing many Eco Wools.  I have done some research to find out what this means.  There is no clear cut answer but from what I have read I believe it is wool taken from free range roaming sheep where the wool has not been treated with chemicals, dyes or bleaches.  Eco wool comes in the fleece's own natural colours.

We just received a shipment from Marks and Kattens (a Norwegian company) of a yarn called Eco Multi Ull.  It is 100% wool with at least 20% merino wool.  There are 80m on a 50gram ball and it knits to a tension of 16-17 stitches=4" in stocking stitch on 5.5mm needles.  At $6.75 a ball it is a great deal.

The shades are great for hats, mitts and scarves.  We have patterns for these and sweaters in the store.
Tip
There are many great hand dyed and hand painted yarns on the market now.  There is one small problem with these yarns-no 2 skeins are exactly the same.  Even if they are done at the same time the skeins can be slightly different.  Lorna's Laces even puts dye lots on their yarns.

If you are using one colour for a whole garment you should alternate between two balls.  Knit two rows from one ball and then two rows from another, carrying the yarns up the side of your work.  This will blend the yarns so that the colour differences aren't obvious.
